Who we are

Tropical FM is a news, talk and edutainment broadcasting station operating in the 88.40 MHz in the FM band. Its main studios are situated at Tropical House, Plot 42 Road A, Boma Hill in Mubende, central region of Uganda. There is a liasion office situated on the main street, Plot 9, Mubende Town Council, opposite Stanbic Uganda.

The station started broadcasting in 2009 and operates, a 24 hour broadcast, seven days a week, covering local and international news, talkshows, and edutainment participatory programs. Tropical FM invests in documentaries, educational programming, and investigative on air material.

Tropical FM 88.4 is arguably the most events-based driven station in mid Western Uganda region. Our regular events ensure that our interaction with listeners and potential market target is unrivalled. Some of our events include: Mubende Farmers and Traders Exhibition, Ebbinu Annual Festival, Independence Celebrations –Endongo y’Ameffuga, Go Back 2 School Promo party, Tropical Annual Tour amongst other events.

The listenership covers central, mid western and mid eastern Uganda. This covers Uganda’s fastest growing areas in agricultural production, small and medium scale industralization, with a royal listenership of up to 4 million people. The main languages of broadcasting are Luganda, Runyoro and Rutoro. Other languages used are English, Runyankole, Lusoga, Rukiga, Lhukonzo, Swahili and Rufumbira. The station is manned by some of the nation’s best media personnel in the broadcasting industry, with a blend of well-known names and upcoming talents.

This therefore endows Tropical FM 88.4 to appeal to both  rural and urban listeners, young and old population segments. Thus Tropical FM 88.4 is a reliable and effective radio station to advertise with.

Covered Areas

Equipped with a safe, state-of-the-art, reliable technology, FM transmission systems, Tropical FM 88.4 covers an area of over and above 120 miles radius. In Uganda, we cover the entire central and western regions, and the near eastern region, plus mid-northern region. Districts covered so far include: Mubende, Mityana, Rakai, Masaka, Sembabule, Nakasongola, Nakaseke, Kiboga, Luwero, Wakiso, Mpigi, Kalangala, Kampala, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, Fort Portal, Masindi, Hoima, Kasese, Ibanda, Buhweju, Isingiro, Kiruhura, Lyantonde, Kamwengye, Kyegegwa, Bukomansimbi, Kyankwanzi, Gomba, Kibaale etc.

Listenership

Both central and western Uganda have a combined population of 18 million people out of which 4 million are potential and loyal listeners of Tropical FM 88.4.

Programming

Tropical FM 88.4 develops programmes with individuals, companies, NGOs, and Government institutions to provide educative and developmental education information directly to the people.  It involves local groups and organisations in programming and production, so as to tackle important issues such as development, agriculture, education for school-going children, civic education, health education, cultural identity, family and gender issues, problems of youth, AIDS prevention, and other issues. All the elements of the programme- serials, music, debates, competitions, drama, magazines, announcements, station’s identities (jingles and signatures), questions, answers, advertisement breaks and news casts – have a specific timing  right down to the last second.

Broadcasting time is sold to companies, government institutions, NGOs & individuals who want to pass on their messages to the listeners.

Companies can sponsor programmes for agreed periods. Tropical radio has a network of contacts/agents in different regions who can be contacted to distribute products, literature & samples and can provide promotional research feedback.
